About TVM

The Village Markets (TVM), is the original and best boutique creative market on the Gold Coast, showcasing over 90 fashion, arts and creative stalls as well as live local music and delicious gourmet food.

Founded in October 2008, the aim of TVM is to create a platform for talented emerging fashion designers, artists, photographers and vintage collectors to showcase their wares, as well as providing a much needed regular cultural event for the region.

The Village Markets trade on the first and third Sunday of every month from 8am – 1pm at Burleigh Heads State School oval.

TVM is a boutique creative market with a strict application process. At TVM, you’ll find a diverse range of stalls from men’s and women’s fashion by emerging and local designers, vintage clothing sourced from around the world and one-off, high quality jumble stalls. You’ll also find amongst the fashion stalls various local artworks, hand crafted jewellery and unique homewares.

Shoppers flock to TVM to browse the amazing lineup of stalls on offer, catch up with friends, laze on the lawn with a freshly brewed coffee in hand, devour the delicious selection of gourmet eats, listen to live local musicians in the sunshine, network with likeminded people and enjoy the outdoor environment.

Here’s what some of our stallholders have to say about TVM:

“Jewellery by Kim (JBK) has been with The Village Markets pretty much from the beginning.  It is an amazing market with emerging designers being able to showcase their creations in the best possible way.  JBK would not be as popular without TVM, people who love my creations keep on coming back not only to see me but to also enjoy the atmosphere that is The Village Markets.”

“Being a Stall holder at The Village Markets is so fun and insipiring, even though we are primarily an online business, I love having the chance to meet our customers face to face, but my favorite thing about them are all of the other stall holders, we’re like a little family, it almost doesn’t even feel like work!”
Rachel Wakefield - Tenspeed & Brownshoes.

“I am so happy that I chose The Village Markets to further my label! Since being a part of TVM, I have been contacted by 2 boutiques to carry pieces in their store, been approached by bloggers and photographers to use my pieces for photoshoots and built up a big customer base. It’s a very fun, positive and artisitic scene. I feel people specifically visit TVM to shop for something different and to be a part of a creative atmosphere and in turn that’s what they get! It’s well organised and the girls are always promoting your label for you too. It’s the best place for exposure!”
Keira Ledford - Howlin Wolf.

“TVM have been an incredible platform to get my business out there and known. TVM always draws in the right crowd and customers, that continue to expand my business. I love the vibe the market creates and of course the organisers, Marissa and Sarah, are always there with a smile!”
Megan Saurbier - Drowning In Decadence.

“TVM gave me a vehicle to get my brand ‘LoveBird’ up and running. I will never forget making my first sale…it is so exciting when a total stranger says they love what you do…what you’re so passionate about. TVM is the original for creating a hub for the Gold Coast best creatives, the perfect hunting ground for savvy retailers to find the next best thing – it’s not unusual to have retailers ask to stock you in their boutiques, TVM is a great avenue for getting direct feedback on your new collections. Hearing what your customer thinks about your new product is invaluable.
Thanks TVM for supporting young brands.”

Angela Steedon - LoveBird.

Background

When visiting any major city it is easy to find a network of local businesses, created from up and coming designers, artists, musicians, foodies and collectors. Melbourne and Sydney play host to several ‘market’ events where local talent and small businesses can showcase their works, yet the Gold Coast lacked such an event.

The Gold Coast was looking for an event where like-minded individuals and partnerships can showcase their work, network with other small business owners and most importantly sell their goods. There were several Art and Craft markets on the Gold Coast, but nothing that catered for the younger generation, the 18 to 34 year olds, that make up 17.5% of the Gold Coast population.

The lack of cultural and community events on the Gold Coast prompted the creation of The Village Markets, a non-funded, alcohol free, community focused event. The markets reflect the concepts of other more established markets such as Bondi Markets, Paddington Markets and London’s Portobello Road Markets, both known throughout the world for serving as launching pads for some of the most successful young creative talents in recent years.

Event Managers

The Village Markets is co-managed by Marissa Bowden and Sarah Schoeller.

As locals with marketing and events backgrounds, Marissa and Sarah were excited to showcase what their region had to offer and have managed to attract national media coverage for the area and it’s talented creatives.

In 2012, the duo were selected to feature in a Griffith University’s Business School advertising campaign, recognising their success as graduates.
